Frontier Marches Crafting

This document catalogs the items craftable from materials found in the Frontier Marches, tied directly to the creatures in frontier-marches-bestiary.md. Every recipe shows the full ingredient breakdown by role, demonstrating how common materials remain structurally required in every recipe regardless of how rare the primary ingredient is.

The Permanence Rule

No material becomes obsolete. The system enforces this through role architecture: each recipe has structural roles (binding, lining, finish, frame, packaging) that are permanently filled by common materials. A rare material enters via the augmentation or core slot — it changes what the item does but never replaces what holds it together.

Concrete mechanic: common materials also own their own permanent recipes (arrows, field rations, repair kits, mine braces, basic rations) that are consumed daily at every progression level. A veteran adventurer still eats, still repairs, still replaces bowstrings.

Quality Tiers Reference

Tier Notes
Common Baseline output; lowest structural grade
Crafted Reliable, consistent quality
Fine Above-average; opens mid-tier recipe slots
Superior High-end; most elite content uses this as floor
Exceptional Launch-region ceiling for organic materials; rare
Masterwork Rare craft outcome requiring Master skill + Master Workshop

Recipes specify the range of quality achievable based on input material grades. See crafting-and-itemization.md for the full resolution rules.

Material Preparation (Refining Steps)

These are the refining recipes that convert raw harvested materials into usable crafting inputs. They are not optional — the workshop processes them before any assembly recipe can run.

Hide Tanning

All hides require tanning before use in leatherworking recipes.

Hide grade Salt required Fat/tallow required Fuel Output
Common Common salt Common tallow Common leather
Crafted Common salt Common tallow Crafted leather
Fine Common salt Common tallow or boar fat Fine leather
Superior Fine mineral salt Bog fat or refined oil Superior leather
Exceptional Fine mineral salt Bog fat or Suohauki fat Exceptional leather

Common salt and common tallow are consumed at every tier. Exceptional hide still needs both. The quality of the salt and fat set a secondary ceiling — exceptional hide tanned with common salt caps at Superior leather. Fine mineral salt unlocks the top tier.

Meat Preservation

Raw meat must be preserved before it can be stored in expedition packs.

Method Salt Heat/fuel Shelf life Notes
Field smoking Common salt Common fuel 3 days Fast; usable in the field
Salt-curing Common salt None 14 days No heat needed; boar fat improves result
Long smoke + aging Common salt or mineral salt Hardwood 30+ days Premium meats; requires a full smokehouse setup

Common salt is consumed in every preservation method. A Master provisioner smoking premium aurochs beef still needs the same Common salt an apprentice uses for wolf meat strips.

Iron Processing (Crude → Refined)

Crude iron scraps from goblinoid salvage are a primary feedstock for common iron goods.

Input Fuel Flux Output
Iron ore Charcoal or coal Limestone Iron bloom (Common)
Crude iron scraps (goblinoid) Charcoal Common iron stock
Iron bloom Charcoal Slag removal Refined iron ingot (Crafted)
Refined ingot + carbon Charcoal or coke Steel billet

Charcoal is consumed at every step of this chain. A Master Smith working on an Exceptional weapon still burns charcoal. Crude goblinoid iron scraps feed into rivets, nails, buckles, and mine hardware — never wasted, never obsolete.

Leatherworking

The most material-dense discipline in the launch region. Every armor piece, pack, and strap-based item draws from a wide range of beast materials.

Quivers and Field Pouches

Hunter's Quiver — Common to Fine

Role Material Quality
Shell Wolf pelt or deer hide Common → Fine
Stiffener Boar bristle bundle Common
Binding Wolf sinew or deer gut Common
Stitching Sinew thread Common
Finish Boar fat rub Common

Output: A 20-arrow quiver with belt loop. Quality determines how well the quiver protects fletching from rain and marsh exposure — a Fine quiver prevents weather damage to arrows; a Common quiver does not. Every bow-using character needs at least one. A boar-bristle stiffener and boar-fat finish are always present regardless of the pelt used for the shell.

Herb Pouch — Common to Crafted

Role Material Quality
Shell Cat pelt or deer hide Common → Fine
Lining Boar bristle bundle (dry-layer) Common
Closure Cat sinew drawstring Common → Crafted
Stitching Sinew Common

Output: A sealed herb pouch that maintains the dryness and darkness required to preserve harvested glands, herbs, and venom sacs. The cat pelt shell is not purely decorative — it provides a softer, more flexible outer surface that prevents pressure-damage to fragile containers inside. Cat sinew drawstring is the specific binding material (its fine diameter and resistance to stretch keeps the pouch sealed under compression). Both are permanently relevant because Herbalism is practiced at all progression levels.

Light Armor

Light Leather Chest — Common to Fine

Role Material Quality
Shell Deer hide leather Common → Fine
Padding layer Cloth or felt Common
Straps and closure Leather strap, iron buckle Common
Stitching Sinew or thread Common
Finish Boar fat or tallow rub Common

Output: Entry-level chest armor. Every new adventurer starts here. Fine-grade deer hide shell moves the Defense channel to the Crafted tier on this slot. Boar fat finish and iron buckles are Common-grade in every version regardless of hide quality. Repair consumes deer hide, sinew, and iron buckles — keeping demand live permanently.

Light Leather Gloves — Common to Fine

Role Material Quality
Palm Deer hide leather (tight grain) Common → Fine
Back Wolf pelt or cat pelt (supple) Common → Fine
Stitching Cat sinew or thread Common → Crafted
Finish Boar fat rub Common

Output: Gloves balancing grip with dexterity. Cat sinew stitching is specified rather than thread for this recipe because glove stitching receives high stress and cat sinew does not fray under repeated flex. Common thread fails here within weeks. This is cat sinew's primary structural role — its fineness and flex resistance are irreplaceable in this application.

Light Leather Boots — Common to Fine

Role Material Quality
Upper Deer hide leather Common → Fine
Sole (outer) Boar hide leather Common → Fine
Sole (inner pad) Deer hide offcut Common
Buckle Iron buckle Common
Stitching Heavy sinew Crafted
Finish Boar fat waterproofing rub Common

Output: Standard light field boots. Boar hide is specified for the sole because its natural density and fiber structure resist abrasion better than deer hide — using deer hide on the sole produces boots that wear through in days. This creates a paired demand: deer hide for the upper, boar hide for the sole, in every boot recipe at every tier.

Medium Armor

Medium Leather Chest — Crafted to Fine

Role Material Quality
Shell Boar hide leather Crafted → Fine
Reinforcement panels Beetle carapace plates Crafted → Fine
Padding layer Wool felt Common → Crafted
Straps and closure Leather strap, iron buckle Common
Rivets Crude iron rivets Common
Stitching Sinew cord Crafted
Finish Boar fat rub Common

Output: The standard combat chest for D–C rank adventuring. The beetle carapace reinforcement panels are what distinguishes this from light leather — they add rigid impact dispersion without increasing weight significantly. The crude iron rivets holding the panels in place are always Common-grade. Even Fine-quality carapace panels are fastened with the same rivets as Common-grade panels.

Boar Hunter's Vest (Briar-Backed) — Fine to Superior

Requires Coedwych access.

Role Material Quality
Back panel Coedwych thornboar hide (briar-ridge section) Fine → Superior
Front panel Boar hide leather Crafted → Fine
Padding layer Wool felt Common
Reinforcement Beetle carapace plates Fine
Straps and closure Leather strap (×3), iron buckle Common
Rivets Crude iron rivets Common
Stitching Heavy sinew Fine
Finish Boar fat rub Common

Output: A specialist chest armor with exceptional puncture resistance on the back panel, designed for players who push into dense forest zones. The briar-ridge skin of the Coedwych is the upgrade driver — its natural hooked-bristle structure creates a multi-layer deflection surface. The front panel is ordinary boar hide leather. Crude iron rivets and boar fat finish are always Common regardless of the back panel's quality tier.

Heavy Armor

Heavy Leather Chest — Fine to Superior

Role Material Quality
Shell Thornboar plate-hide or thick aurochs hide Fine → Superior
Reinforcement panels Scale-ridge plates (Suohauki) or beetle carapace Fine → Superior
Padding layer Bear fur/wool felt composite Fine
Straps (×3) Leather strap Crafted → Fine
Rivets Crude iron rivets Common
Stitching Heavy sinew Fine → Superior
Finish Bog fat or refined oil rub Fine

Output: Heavy chest armor with defensive rating comparable to entry-level metal. A boss-grade thornboar plate-hide shell reaches Exceptional — the launch region's highest organic armor rating. The Suohauki scale-ridge reinforcement panels are what allows the Exceptional ceiling to be reached on this recipe. Even at the Exceptional ceiling, crude iron rivets and the wool-felt padding base are Common and Crafted inputs. They are the structure. The rare hides and plates are the protection.

Exceptional Chest (Full Boss-Grade) — Exceptional

Requires Elite or Boss thornboar and Elite or Boss Suohauki or Jokipuli. Veteran+ Leatherworking. Established Workshop minimum.

Role Material Quality
Shell Elder thornboar plate-hide Exceptional
Reinforcement panels Grand scale-ridge plates (Suohauki boss) Exceptional
Padding layer Bear fur felt composite Fine
Straps (×3) Leather strap Crafted
Rivets Crude iron rivets Common
Stitching Heavy constriction sinew (Suopuli) Superior
Finish Bog fat rub Fine

Output: The highest-quality organic chest armor available in the launch region. Its construction uses three Exceptional organic materials simultaneously — the plate-hide, the scale-ridge panels, and the sinew stitching. The crude iron rivets are still Common. The bear fur felt padding layer is still Fine. These structural roles are never replaced. Repair of this item consumes crude iron rivets, leather straps, and wool felt — the same Common materials used in the cheapest leatherwork in the game.

Packs and Expedition Gear

Field Pack (Small) — Common

Role Material Quality
Shell Deer hide or wolf pelt leather Common
Frame support Bone rod or sapling wood Common
Strap and closure Leather strap, iron buckle Common
Stitching Sinew or thread Common

Output: A 15-slot expedition pack. New adventurers, village couriers, farm workers. Permanently in demand. Made entirely from Common materials — this is one of the primary sinks for wolf pelt and deer hide that keeps their prices from falling to zero. Every new player who joins the game buys or crafts this before they do anything else.

Expedition Pack (Medium) — Crafted to Fine

Role Material Quality
Shell Boar hide or aurochs hide leather Crafted → Fine
Frame rods Ashwood, iron corner fittings Crafted
Strap system Leather straps (×3), iron buckle Common
Lining Wool or felt layer Common
Waterproof finish Boar fat or bog fat rub Common → Fine
Stitching Heavy sinew Crafted

Output: A 25-slot expedition pack with frame support. The standard pack for most active adventurers. Wool lining, iron buckles, and boar fat finish are always Common regardless of shell quality. Fine-quality boar fat rub is an upgrade option that extends waterproofing duration — it is not required but meaningfully improves the pack's performance in marsh and river terrain.

War Pack (Heavy) — Fine to Superior

Role Material Quality
Shell Thick aurochs hide leather Fine → Superior
Frame system Ashwood frame planks, iron banding Fine
Strap system Leather straps (×4), iron adjustable buckles Crafted → Fine
Lining Bear fur or wool felt composite Fine
Waterproof finish Bog fat or Suohauki fat rub Fine → Superior
Reinforcement rivets Crude iron rivets Common
Stitching Heavy sinew Fine

Output: A 35-slot expedition pack with adjustable load-bearing frame. Standard for extended military and long-expedition use. The crude iron rivets holding the frame banding to the shell are Common regardless of the pack's overall quality tier. The wool felt lining base is also Common — the bear fur composite layer is added on top of it, not in place of it.

Cold-Weather Cloak — Fine to Exceptional

Role Material Quality
Outer shell Bergulfr winter pelt or Tapiokarhu pelt Crafted → Exceptional
Inner lining (thermal) Wolf pelt Common → Fine
Collar trim Cat pelt or Tunturikat pelt Common → Superior
Clasp hardware Iron clasp or wolf canine clasp Common → Fine
Stitching Heavy sinew Crafted → Fine
Seam waterproofing Boar tallow rub Common

Output: Cold-resistance cloak for mountain and winter expeditions. An Exceptional Bergulfr shell cloak (Fimbulfr pelt, boss-grade) is the best cold-resist garment in the launch region. It still has a wolf pelt inner lining — the thermal trapping layer that the outer shell alone cannot provide. The shell deflects wind and moisture; the inner pelt traps body heat. Both layers are structurally required. Boar tallow seam waterproofing is always Common regardless of the outer shell's quality.

Wading Gear Set (Boots + Vest) — Fine to Exceptional

Boots:

Role Material Quality
Upper Suohauki skin or Jokipuli skin Fine → Exceptional
Outer sole Thick boar hide leather Crafted → Fine
Inner pad Deer hide offcut Common
Stitching Waterproof sinew Fine
Seam treatment Serpent fat or bog fat Fine → Superior
Buckle Iron buckle Common

Vest (worn under armor):

Role Material Quality
Shell Suohauki skin or Jokipuli skin Fine → Exceptional
Inner layer Common leather Common
Straps Leather straps Common
Seam treatment Serpent fat or bog fat Fine → Superior
Rivets Crude iron rivets Common

Output: A matched waterproof layer set for river crossings, marsh expeditions, and wet-climate operations. Even an Exceptional-shell set (Suohauki boss skin) uses a boar hide outer sole, a deer hide inner pad, and crude iron buckles and rivets throughout. The waterproof skin cannot serve as sole material — its flex properties cause it to separate from the stitch line under hard walking. The rigid boar hide sole is structurally mandatory.

Expedition Tent (4-person) — Crafted to Fine

Role Material Quality
Fly panels (outer) Waxed canvas or Suohauki skin panel Crafted → Fine
Inner wall panels Canvas or treated cloth Common
Pole pockets Leather reinforcement strip Common
Guy-rope loops Leather loops Common
Stakes Iron spikes (crude iron) Common
Seam waterproofing Boar fat rub Common

Output: A standard expedition tent. A Suohauki skin fly panel version is waterproof without the tallow treatment step — but still needs canvas inner walls, leather pole pockets, leather guy-rope loops, and crude iron stakes. The stakes and seam treatment are always Common. Repair of a damaged fly panel is the primary recurring consumption of Suohauki skin offcuts even from players who do not craft new tents.

Saddles and Straps

Pack Saddle — Crafted to Fine

Role Material Quality
Seat and flap Aurochs hide leather Crafted → Fine
Tree (frame) Ashwood plank set Crafted
Panel Boar hide leather Common → Crafted
Girth strap Heavy leather strap Crafted
D-rings and buckles Iron hardware Common
Stitching Heavy gut cord Crafted
Finish Aurochs tallow rub Common

Output: A pack saddle for draft animals and mounts carrying supply loads. Iron hardware and aurochs tallow finish are Common regardless of leather quality. The aurochs tallow's role here is to prevent the leather from drying and cracking under load — it is irreplaceable in this application because its molecular weight keeps it in the leather longer than lighter fats.

Metalworking

Fasteners and Hardware (Permanent Base Demand)

These are not glamorous recipes. They are the structural foundation of almost everything else. Crude iron from goblinoid salvage feeds all of them.

Iron Rivet Batch (×20) — Common

Role Material
Stock Crude iron or common iron
Fuel Charcoal

Output: The single most consumed crafting output in the game. Every armor piece uses 4–12. Every pack uses 2–8. Every saddle uses 6–10. Mine braces use 4 per set. Town projects consume them in the thousands. Crude goblinoid iron scraps fill this recipe directly — they do not need refining first for rivet production. This is their primary permanent sink.

Iron Buckle Set (×6) — Common to Crafted

Role Material
Stock Crude or refined iron
Fuel Charcoal
Rust prevention Boar fat rub

Output: Buckle hardware for every strap and closure. Common-grade from crude iron; Crafted-grade from refined iron with tighter tolerances. Both grades are always needed — Common buckles for field gear, Crafted buckles for saddles and expedition packs where slip under load could be dangerous. Boar fat rust prevention is always present.

Iron Stake Set (×8) — Common

Role Material
Stock Crude iron
Fuel Charcoal

Output: Ground stakes for tents, rope anchors, and trap setups. Crude goblinoid iron is sufficient — this recipe does not benefit from refined iron because the stakes are driven into the ground and lost or bent in use.

Mine Brace Set — Common

Role Material
Vertical post Timber planks
Cross brace Timber
Iron spikes (×8) Crude iron (goblinoid scraps work here directly)
Drive wedge Common iron

Output: A mine shoring set for Rumiarr's shaft maintenance. When Kivirotta infestation events trigger timber gnawing, this is the repair item. Crude goblinoid iron is explicitly suitable for mine spikes — they do not require refined iron. This is one of the primary intended sinks for crude iron scraps in the Frontier Marches.

Tools

Hunting Knife — Common to Fine

Role Material Quality
Blade Iron or refined iron Common → Fine
Handle Bone rod or aurochs bone Common → Crafted
Grip wrap Deer hide strip Common
Guard Iron fitting Common
Temper Common salt brine quench Common
Finish Boar tallow rub Common

Output: A general hunting knife. Quality affects edge retention and how cleanly it skins — a Fine blade improves Hunting & Trapping harvest yield by ~5% over Common. The grip wrap and tallow finish are always Common regardless of blade grade.

Skinning Knife (Specialist) — Crafted to Fine

Role Material Quality
Blade Refined iron (narrow, thin grind) Crafted → Fine
Handle Deer or Kaaduaran antler section Crafted → Fine
Grip wrap Cat sinew (thin) Common → Crafted
Temper Common salt brine Common
Finish Boar tallow rub Common

Output: A specialist skinning knife that, together with a bone saw and curing salt, unlocks the upper yield range in Hunting & Trapping at Practiced and below. The antler handle provides non-slip grip when wet — critical for field dressing. Cat sinew grip wrap is specified here because its fine diameter and flex resistance prevent it from slipping under the repeated twisting motion of field skinning. No higher-tier sinew replaces it in this role — its fineness is the property, not its quality tier.

Bone Saw — Common to Crafted

Role Material
Frame Iron rod (Common)
Blade (tensioned) Crude iron — tooth-notched
Handle Aurochs or bear bone
Grip binding Leather strip

Output: A bone saw for field dressing large game. Used together with the skinning knife to unlock full yield range at Practiced+. The crude iron tooth blade never needs upgrading — tooth pattern geometry matters more than material grade for this tool. This is an ongoing sink for crude goblinoid iron at Common grade.

Trapping Kit (Spring Jaw ×2) — Common to Fine

Role Material Quality
Jaw plates Refined iron Common → Fine
Spring Iron rod (tensioned) Common
Pan and trigger Iron parts Common
Chain (×80 cm) Crude iron chain links Common
Anchor stake Iron spike Common
Jaw face wrap Leather strip Common

Output: A pair of spring jaw traps for the Trapping activity. Fine-quality jaw plates close fast enough and hold tight enough to preserve hide quality on the kill. Common plates are effective but cause some hide damage. The chain, stake, and leather face wrap are always Common regardless of jaw grade.

Weapons

Iron Spear — Common to Fine

Role Material Quality
Spearhead Iron bloom or refined iron Common → Fine
Haft Ashwood or pine pole Common
Socket binding Leather strip lashing Common
Temper Common salt brine quench Common
Grip wrap Deer hide strip Common
Finish Boar tallow rub Common

Output: The most common expedition weapon on Trevalkaan's commission board. Fine spearhead holds an edge measurably longer than Common. The ashwood haft, leather lashing, and tallow finish are always Common-grade regardless of spearhead quality. Repair consumes deer hide (grip rewrap), leather strip (binding), and tallow — all Common.

Bone-Tipped Arrows (×20) — Common

Role Material
Shaft Pine or ash rod
Head Wolf bone fragment or deer bone (split-chiseled)
Fletching Bird feathers or stiff grass
Binding Deer gut
Adhesive Pine resin

Output: The cheapest viable arrow. Wolf bone fragments and deer bone are the primary inputs — they are the permanent high-volume sink for Common bone material. Every active archer carries bone-tipped arrows for trash-mob encounters and practice, reserving iron-headed arrows for serious targets. Deer gut binding is always present.

Iron-Headed Arrows (×20) — Crafted to Fine

Role Material Quality
Shaft Ashwood or pine rod Common
Head Crude or refined iron (punched head) Common → Crafted
Fletching Bird feathers Common
Binding Wolf sinew or deer gut Common
Adhesive Pine resin Common

Output: Standard combat arrows. Crude iron heads from goblinoid scrap stock are entirely valid here at Common grade. Sinew or gut binding and pine resin adhesive are always Common. A veteran archer upgrading to Fine-quality iron heads for boss encounters still carries Common sinew-bound shaft arrows for standard use.

Hunter's Bow — Common to Fine

Role Material Quality
Limbs Yew or ash stave Common → Fine
String Deer gut or wolf sinew Common
Grip wrap Deer hide strip Common
Nock tips Wolf bone fragments Common
Finish Boar tallow rub Common

Output: The standard hunting bow. String replacement is the primary maintenance cost — gut strings wear and snap. This creates permanent consumption of deer gut and wolf sinew by every active archer. A veteran with a Fine yew bow still restrings it with Common deer gut. Nock tips from wolf bone are always present.

Superior Recurve Bow — Fine to Superior

Role Material Quality
Limbs Ashwood or ironwood stave Fine → Superior
Sinew backing Kivisusi or Bergulfr sinew Fine → Superior
Horn nocks Aurochs horn tips Fine
String Wolf sinew (heavy) Crafted → Fine
Grip wrap Lynx pelt strip Fine
Limb conditioning Boar tallow rub Common
Nock tip reinforcement Wolf bone tips Common
Finish Wax or lacquer Crafted

Output: A recurve bow with higher draw weight and effective range than the straight-limb hunter's bow. The sinew backing prevents limb separation under tension — it is the signature addition. Wolf bone nock tips and boar tallow limb conditioning are the same Common-grade inputs used on a basic bow. The wax finish is Crafted-grade — the only recipe-level upgrade in the structural support group.

Masterwork Compound Bow — Superior to Exceptional

Requires Elder Jokipuli jaw sinew (boss-grade). Expert+ Woodworking. Advanced Workshop minimum.

Role Material Quality
Limbs Aged ironwood stave Superior
Sinew backing Elder jaw sinew (Jokipuli boss) Exceptional
Horn nocks Aged aurochs horn Superior
String Constriction sinew (Suopuli) Superior
Grip wrap Tunturikat elder pelt strip Exceptional
Limb conditioning Boar tallow rub Common
Nock tip reinforcement Wolf bone tips Common
Finish Lacquer coat + wax seal Fine

Output: The peak bow in the launch region. The Jokipuli elder jaw sinew backing and Suopuli constriction sinew string are the signature materials — the jaw sinew's extraordinary tensile strength allows limb flex under tension that standard sinew would fail under, and the constriction sinew string resists creep under sustained draw weight. The boar tallow limb conditioning and wolf bone nock tips are exactly the same Common inputs as on the cheapest bow. These structural roles never change regardless of the bow's quality tier.

Armor Reinforcement

Scale Plate Insert Set — Fine to Superior

Role Material
Plates River-stalker scale (Jokipuli) or Suohauki scale-ridge
Backing Leather strip
Rivets Crude iron
Adhesive Pine resin

Output: A set of scale plates installed as chest reinforcement inside a leather armor shell. The scale plate insert slot is the upgrade path for mid-tier heavy leather armor — it does not replace the armor, it improves it. Crude iron rivets and leather backing are always Common. This creates a retrofit demand for crude iron rivets at mid-to-high gear tiers.

Woodworking

Handles and Grips

Antler, horn, tusk, and bone provide specialty handles that wood cannot replicate in specific roles — grip texture when wet, thermal insulation, density gradient for balance, and decorative value. They fill the frame role in tool and weapon recipes.

Antler-Handle Skinning Set — Fine

Role Material
Blades (×2) Fine refined iron (knife + hook grind)
Handles Maeshirvi or Kaaduaran antler section
Grip pin Iron pin (Common)
Finish Boar tallow rub

Output: A matched skinning knife and skinning hook with antler handles. The antler grip texture remains non-slip when coated in blood — a property wood grips lack. Iron grip pin and tallow finish are always Common.

Matched Tool Handle Set — Crafted to Superior

Role Material Quality
Handle blanks Kaaduaran antler, Maesarw horn, or Coedwych tusk Crafted → Superior
Pin set Iron pins Common
Wrap Leather or sinew Common
Finish Boar tallow or oil Common

Output: A matched set of handles for harvest tools, survey instruments, or tinkering equipment. Grand rack antler (boss Kaaduaran) reaches Superior quality — this allows tool sets to be crafted at Superior quality rather than Fine, giving a measurable output-quality lift to any gathering or crafting skill that uses these tools. The iron pins and leather wrap are always Common regardless of antler grade.

Powder Horn — Crafted to Fine

Role Material
Body Aurochs horn (hollowed, sealed at tip)
End cap Iron fitted cap
Neck strap Leather thong
Plug Common wax

Output: A sealed powder horn for alchemical powder or black-powder storage. Aurochs horn is the only organic material with the right wall density and structural geometry to hollow cleanly and seal reliably. No substitute material exists for the body. The iron cap, leather strap, and wax plug are always Common.

Hunting Horn (Instrument) — Superior

Requires aged boss-grade Maesarw horn.

Role Material
Body Aged Maesarw horn (boss-grade)
Mouthpiece fitting Iron or refined copper
Strap mount Leather loop

Output: A functional instrument used as a hunting signal horn and as a morale item for village celebrations. The aged aurochs horn must be a boss-grade specimen — younger, thinner horns cannot hold the resonant chamber geometry when worked. Iron mouthpiece fitting and leather strap are always Common.

Alchemy and Medicine

All alchemy recipes require a base medium (oil, fat, or spirit base), a stabilizer (salt or mineral powder), and a container (vial or jar plus wax seal). These inputs are present in every recipe regardless of how rare the active ingredient is.

Recovery and Medicine

Basic Recovery Salve — Common to Crafted

Role Material Quality
Active ingredient Dried common herb bundle Common
Base medium Rendered beast fat (wolf, boar, any) Common
Stabilizer Common salt Common
Container Clay vial Common
Seal Wax plug Common

Output: A basic wound salve. Permanently relevant — new adventurers need these constantly, and veterans carry them as cheap field dressing for minor injuries. Every beast kill that produces fat also produces salve base material. Common salt and wax plug are always present.

Bear Gall Endurance Preparation — Fine to Superior

Role Material Quality
Primary active Bear gall (intact, Tapiokarhu) Fine → Superior
Secondary active Antler velvet (seasonal) Crafted → Fine
Base medium Refined oil Fine
Emulsifier Bog beetle oil Fine → Superior
Stabilizer Mineral salt Crafted
Container Glass vial Crafted
Seal Wax plug Common

Output: A high-grade endurance preparation that extends effective combat duration, reduces injury risk in sustained encounters, and shortens Recovery phases. Bear gall provides the primary active compound — it cannot be substituted. Bog beetle oil acts as an emulsifier that keeps the bear gall and antler velvet compounds suspended without separating. Without the bog beetle oil, the preparation separates in the vial and the active compound distributes unevenly. Wax plug and mineral salt are always present.

Swamp Condition Medicine — Fine to Superior

Exclusive to Metsadu herb elder commission line and Trevalkaan Physician.

Role Material Quality
Primary active Swamp gland paired (Suohauki, intact) Fine → Exceptional
Supporting reagent Bog fat Fine
Base medium Rendered animal fat Common
Stabilizer Common salt Common
Container Clay jar Crafted
Seal Wax plug Common

Output: A specialist medicine for bog fever, rot-wound, and extended wetland exposure conditions. The paired swamp gland is a unique active ingredient — there is no substitute for it in this recipe family. The bog fat is a supporting reagent (it carries the gland's active compounds into suspension). Rendered animal fat, Common salt, and wax plug are always present. The uniqueness of this recipe creates sustained demand for Suohauki glands at all progression levels because bog conditions persist in all expedition routes that cross the marsh.

Physician's Stamina Tonic — Crafted to Fine

Role Material Quality
Active ingredient Antler velvet (Maeshirvi or Kaaduaran, spring) Crafted → Fine
Base medium Refined oil or spirit base Crafted
Stabilizer Mineral salt Crafted
Container Glass vial Crafted
Seal Wax plug Common

Output: A stamina recovery tonic. The antler velvet active compound reduces fatigue accumulation during march phases and shortens Recovery phase duration. Antler velvet is seasonal — spring-only harvest. Supply drops to near-zero in autumn and winter, causing price spikes. Wax plug is always Common. Glass vial is always Crafted — it never upgrades to a rare container because the vial's quality does not affect the preparation.

Toxins and Paralytic Preparations

Spider Anti-Venom — Crafted to Fine

Role Material Quality
Active ingredient Brynhämähäkki venom (diluted) Fine
Desensitiser Chitin dust (Suokuori) Crafted → Fine
Base medium Bear fat or refined oil Crafted
Stabilizer Mineral salt Crafted
Container Glass vial Crafted
Seal Wax plug Common

Output: An antitoxin for spider and serpent venom exposure. The diluted venom provides an immune priming response (desensitization model); the chitin dust is a secondary active that binds the venom compound and controls release rate. Both spider venom and chitin dust are required — one without the other produces an ineffective preparation. Bear fat and mineral salt are always Crafted-grade support materials. Wax plug is always Common.

Paralytic Extract (Hunting Grade) — Fine to Superior

Role Material Quality
Active Marsh paralytic gland (Suopuli, intact) Fine → Superior
Base Spirit base (grain alcohol) Crafted
Stabilizer Mineral salt Fine
Carrier Bog fat Fine
Container Glass vial (sealed) Fine
Seal Wax plug Common

Output: A paralytic preparation with three applications: applied to trap jaw faces to reduce prey struggling (preserving hide quality), applied to arrowheads for large game hunting, and applied to weapon edges for combat support against large or heavily armored creatures. The spirit base and bog fat are the carrier system that distributes the paralytic compound evenly across a coated surface. Wax plug is always Common.

Paralytic Extract (Combat Grade) — Superior to Exceptional

Role Material Quality
Active Elder paralytic gland (Suopuli boss, intact) Exceptional
Concentrate Suopuli constriction sinew extract Superior
Base Pure spirit base Fine
Stabilizer Fine mineral salt Fine
Carrier Bog fat Fine
Container Glass vial Fine
Seal Wax plug Common

Output: The highest-grade paralytic preparation in the launch region. Requires an intact boss-grade Suopuli gland and a constriction sinew extraction step. The constriction sinew extract acts as a binding agent that increases tissue adhesion of the paralytic compound — it is not a standalone active ingredient but increases the preparation's effectiveness by roughly 40% when present. Wax plug remains Common in this Exceptional-tier recipe.

Warding and Protective Preparations

Basic Warding Preparation — Crafted to Fine

Role Material Quality
Active Wight ash (Karnhaunt or Hjalmarift) Crafted → Fine
Binding reagent Barrow earth (charged) Crafted → Fine
Base medium Spirit base Crafted
Stabilizer Common salt Common
Container Clay vial Common
Seal Wax plug Common

Output: A warding preparation applied to camp perimeters, door thresholds, or worn as a carried ward. Provides partial protection against undead fear effects and reduces probability of undead approach within application radius. The wight ash is the active ingredient — it cannot be substituted. Barrow earth acts as a binding reagent that anchors the ward's effect to a fixed location. Common salt and wax plug are always present.

Advanced Warding Preparation — Fine to Superior

Role Material Quality
Active (terrestrial shade) Superior wight ash (Karnhaunt) Superior
Active (drowned) Maren silt residue (Maarenvaki) Fine
Arcane catalyst Arcane binding residue (Karnwarden) Fine → Superior
Base medium Refined spirit base Fine
Stabilizer Mineral salt Fine
Container Glass vial Crafted
Seal Wax plug Common

Output: An advanced warding preparation effective against the full range of undead types encountered in the Frontier Marches. Three distinct undead-sourced components are required simultaneously — removing any one of the three drops the preparation to basic-tier effectiveness against the corresponding undead type. The Karnwarden arcane catalyst is what makes the preparation effective against Construct-origin undead interference (relevant in karst ruin approaches where Karnwarden and Dursentri co-occupy sites with shades). Glass vial and wax plug are always present.

Bog Waterproofing Oil (Industrial Grade) — Fine to Superior

Role Material Quality
Active Bog fat (Suohauki) Fine → Superior
Thickener Bog beetle oil Fine
Carrier and volume Common beast tallow Common
Salt base Common salt Common
Container Small clay jar Common

Output: A waterproofing oil with performance significantly above standard tallow rubs. Applied to leather armor, rope, tent seams, and expedition gear before marsh, river, and wet-weather operations. The bog fat provides the active water-resistance property but is too viscous to apply directly at normal temperatures — the Common beast tallow acts as a carrier and volume extender that makes the application workable. Without the tallow, the bog fat beads on leather rather than penetrating. Common tallow is permanently required in this superior-tier preparation.

Thornboar Corrosive Solvent — Crafted to Fine

Role Material Quality
Active Thornboar bile Crafted → Fine
Acid stabilizer Mineral powder Crafted
Carrier Spirit base Crafted
Container Clay jar (acid-rated) Crafted

Output: An industrial solvent used in metalworking for descaling and flux applications, and in leatherworking for preparing hides for tanning (the bile's acid content opens the hide fiber structure for dye and fat absorption). Standard clay vials are degraded by the bile — this recipe requires acid-rated clay jars, which are a distinct item from standard clay vials. This creates a secondary demand for acid-rated ceramic containers as a permanent Alchemy consumable.

Cooking and Provisioning

Every meat tier has a permanent recipe. No meat type falls out of use because expedition supply is always partially filled with the cheapest available input.

Lean Field Ration — Common (permanent)

Role Material
Protein Wolf meat, rat meat, or any lean beast meat
Filler Grain or dried root
Salt Common salt
Wrap Cloth or leaf wrap

Output: A single-serving field ration with baseline calorie content. Every new character, every training day at the Adventurers Hall, every low-priority expedition supply slot runs on this. Wolf meat has no better recipe than this — it never upgrades into something else. But it never stops being needed because ration demand never stops. Common salt and cloth wrap are always present.

Standard Venison Ration — Common to Fine

Role Material Quality
Protein Deer or stag meat Common → Fine
Filler Grain Common
Salt Common salt Common
Preservation Field smoking (common fuel)
Wrap Cloth Common

Output: The most traded food item in Trevalkaan's market. Fine venison ration carries a small positive morale modifier for the expedition. Common venison ration provides neutral morale. Both are produced from the same recipe at different meat grades. Common salt and common fuel are always consumed regardless of meat quality.

Cured Boar Provision — Common to Fine

Role Material Quality
Protein Boar meat Common → Fine
Binder/preserve Boar fat Common
Salt Common salt Common
Casing Gut casing or cloth Common

Output: A salt-cured pork provision with good calorie density and longer shelf life than smoked venison. The boar fat is both a byproduct of the same harvest and a structurally required ingredient — it binds the salt cure and prevents surface oxidation during the curing window. You need both boar meat and boar fat from the same kill. This paired demand is intentional and permanent.

Premium Aurochs Provision — Fine to Superior

Role Material Quality
Protein Aurochs beef Crafted → Fine
Fat enrichment Aurochs tallow Common → Crafted
Salt Mineral salt Fine
Fuel Hardwood (for long smoking) Common
Wrap Wax-sealed cloth Common → Crafted

Output: The highest-calorie and highest-morale provision available from a single recipe input at the Fine-tier mark. Provides a significant positive morale modifier for the expedition and a cold-tolerance buff during mountain expeditions due to its calorie density. Fine mineral salt is specifically required — Common salt produces a Crafted-tier version of this recipe, but Fine mineral salt is required to reach the Fine output quality. The wax-sealed cloth wrap and hardwood fuel are always present.

Smoked Bear Pack — Fine to Superior

Role Material Quality
Protein Bear meat Crafted → Fine
Fat enrichment Bear fat (rendered) Crafted → Fine
Salt Common salt Common
Fuel Hardwood Common
Wrap Wax-sealed heavy cloth Crafted

Output: The highest-calorie-per-weight provision in the launch region. A full bear provision pack provides sufficient calories for 2 days of hard expedition work in one portion — it is the preferred ration for winter mountain expeditions. Common salt and hardwood fuel are always present regardless of bear meat quality.

Smoked River Fish Pack — Common to Fine

Role Material Quality
Protein Maarenhauki or Maeshirvi river fish Common → Fine
Salt Common salt Common
Fuel Common fuel Common
Wrap Cloth strip Common

Output: A compact, lightweight river fish provision. Preferred for high-mobility expeditions where pack weight matters more than morale bonus. Arujoki produces this in bulk; the River Market in Trevalkaan treats it as a staple. Common salt and common fuel are always present.

Smoked Eel (Delicacy) — Crafted to Fine

Role Material Quality
Protein Jokilaakso flesh Crafted → Fine
Basting medium Eel liver oil (from same kill) Crafted → Fine
Salt Common salt Common
Fuel Oak or hardwood Common
Wrap Fine cloth Crafted

Output: A delicacy provision that commands premium market prices at Arujoki and Trevalkaan's provisioners. The eel liver oil is used as a basting medium during smoking — it carries aromatic compounds from the eel's own diet that cannot be replicated with generic oil. The eel liver oil must come from the same kill (or same species batch). Common salt and hardwood fuel are always present.

Tinkering

Tinkering uses claws, fangs, teeth, carapace, silk, and arcane components to produce tools, instruments, trap mechanisms, and functional fittings.

Hook Set (×4) — Common to Fine

Role Material
Hook blank Wolf canine, cat claw, or cave rat incisor
Binding Leather strip or sinew
Ring Iron wire (Common)

Output: Field hooks for hanging, snaring, or fishing. Wolf canine, cat claw, and cave rat incisor all fill the blank role. They are not interchangeable for quality — wolf canine is Fine ceiling, cat claw is Crafted, rat incisor is Common — but all three are permanently in demand because hooks are consumed constantly. Iron wire is always Common regardless of which blank material is used.

Clasp Hardware Set (×4) — Crafted to Fine

Role Material
Clasp face Wolf canine or antler segment
Spring pin Iron wire
Body Iron (Common)

Output: Clasp hardware for packs, armor, and saddle closures. The wolf canine clasp is lighter than a fully iron clasp while providing equivalent closure force — it is preferred by players prioritizing pack weight. The iron spring pin and iron body are always Common regardless of canine quality.

Precision Binding Application — Fine to Superior

Role Material
Cord Spider silk thread (processed, Brynhämähäkki)
Anchor wrap Leather strip
Seal Common wax

Output: A precision binding wrap for fine tool joints, instrument mounts, and light weapon grips where maximum tactile control is required. Spider silk processed thread has tensile strength far exceeding sinew or gut at equivalent diameter — this is the property that makes it irreplaceable in this role, not its quality tier per se. A Common leather strip anchors the silk to the substrate; Common wax seals the wrap ends against moisture. Both are always present.

Warding Device (Passive) — Crafted to Fine

Role Material
Core Arcane binding residue (Karnwarden)
Housing Iron fitting
Binding Leather strip
Inscription substrate Barrow earth (charged)
Seal Common wax

Output: A passive warding device installed at camp perimeters, village thresholds, or dungeon approach points to reduce undead approach probability. The arcane binding residue is the functional core — no substitute exists. Barrow earth provides the inscription surface that anchors the ward geometrically. Iron fitting and leather binding are structural. Wax seals the assembly against weather. All structural inputs are Common regardless of residue quality.

Warding Device (Advanced) — Fine to Superior

Role Material
Core Advanced arcane binding residue (Dursentri)
Secondary resonator Arcane binding residue (Karnwarden)
Housing Iron or refined iron fitting
Binding Leather strip
Inscription substrate Barrow earth (charged)
Seal Fine wax

Output: An advanced warding device effective against both mundane undead and construct-origin interference. The Dursentri advanced residue is required — without it the device cannot address the resonance frequency of iron-bound arcane constructs. The Karnwarden residue acts as a tuning secondary (the two residues together create an interference pattern that covers a wider undead category range than either alone). Leather strip and iron fitting remain structural Common/Crafted inputs even at this tier.

Insect Carapace Scraper — Crafted to Fine

Role Material
Face blank Beetle carapace plate (Suokuori)
Frame Iron rod
Grip binding Leather strip

Output: A lightweight scraper tool used in hide preparation and leather finishing. The beetle carapace is rigid enough to hold an edge for scraping while being significantly lighter than an iron scraper. Leatherworkers who process high volumes of hide favor it because reduced tool weight decreases fatigue during long work sessions. Iron rod and leather binding are always Common.
